Wild Orange Buttercream Icing -
I made a yellow cake today.  I’m not much of a cook or a baker, so I used a boxed cake and added the eggs, water, and butter like it said to do.  Ya…I know, boring.  I did make the icing from scratch though!
I found the recipe for the icing at Allrecipes.com.  I cut it in half though because I didn’t need 4 cups.  Once it was finished, I added in 3 drops of Wild Orange essential oil.  OMGoodness!!  It is soooo good!!  It barely discolors the white icing.  You can hardly tell I folded it in.
This is my first shot at cooking (sort of) with the oils.  I can’t wait for the cake to cool so I can frost it and try it!  I don’t doubt it’s going to be amazing!  Some day I will have to try the lemon and the lavender too!  If you decide to try this, let me know how it works for you!

My Abscess Bomb
I have an amazing experience to share!
**Quick Disclaimer:  Just because I did an experiment and it worked for me, doesn’t mean you should do it blindly.  Before trying anything, you really should consult your doctor and/or dentist.  Please make sure you are being safe with your body and your products!
Now, on to my story:
This really is something I should get fixed by seeing a good dentist, but I don’t have insurance or the money right now to have it done.  That being said, I have a problem tooth in the back of my mouth.  Every once in a while it becomes abscessed and without antibiotics it usually takes about a month, or so, for my body to fight the infection and heal.  Yes, I know this is bad for me and I need to do something about it besides taking antibiotics or home remedies, but in the mean time…
Last Sunday, while having a great time watching the 49ers and Seahawks play for the chance to go to the Superbowl (Congrats Seahaks, btw), I lost another filling out of this problematic tooth.  It didn’t seem to give me any problems then but a day later I felt the pain. (No, it’s not because the Seahawks won.)  You know, that nagging, pounding throb of pain you get in an infected tooth.  Of course, I went straight for my Aleve.  It helped and took the pain away, but there was an underlying condition that had to be dealt with.  The next day I felt it.  The swelling, bubbling, fester of an abscess that was growing next to my tooth on my gum line and into my jaw.  Ouch!  Great! Here we go again.
I decided to use some On Guard on it (neat) after brushing my teeth.  It numbed the pain and I didn’t need the Aleve anymore, but the abscess didn’t seem to go down any.  Later that day, I stopped at a local herb store and picked up some gelatin capsules.  I had seen some people make “flu bombs” out of the essential oils and thought maybe I could make something similar with antibacterial properties.  I then proceeded to consult my Modern Essentials book (my oil bible) to find out which oils had the properties I was looking for and which of those oils they deemed safe for internal use.  Here’s what I used from the oils I have.
In the gelatin capsule I combined the following oils:
2 drops Melaluca2 drops Peppermint2 drops Lime4 drops Oregano
I had made my own “Abscess Bomb” capsule.  Now to see if it works.  I closed the capsule and took it with water.  Mind you, I had just eaten lunch so I didn’t take it on an empty stomach.  It went down well and I didn’t have any trouble with my stomach accepting the oils.  No burning or upset stomach, etc.  (I also have to mention that it did make me burp a couple of times but it was very minty!)  After taking the capsule, I applied another drop of On Guard to the area and went about my normal routine.
I’d say it was about an hour, or so, later that I noticed there wasn’t any more pressure on my gum line.  I touched the area with my finger to see if the bubble had gone down any and to my amazement, It was completely gone!  Of course, I ran straight to the mirror.  The swelling had gone away, the bubble was gone, my gum line looked normal, and there was absolutely no pain in my jaw!  It’s now the next day and I’m still having a hard time believing it’s really gone!  This usually takes forever to get rid of and makes me ill for weeks on end!  It didn’t come back over night and I feel great today!  This stuff is absolutely amazing to me!
Again, just because it worked for me, doesn’t mean it will work for you or  that you should try this.  If you do, you are doing so at your own risk and need to accept any consequences that may come with it.  I am sharing this experience for documentation purposes, not to tempt you into leaving Western Medicine behind, etc.

The Deep Blue Worked!

I posted to my blog earlier that the deep blue didn’t work for my tension back pain and I had to use the Past Tense to relive it.  This still holds true; however, I had new pain in my spine and neck this week that I thought was tension as well.  I tried the Past Tense on it, but it didn’t take the pain away.  I could barely turn my head back and forth, so I took some Aleve instead.  It didn’t even touch the pain and I still couldn’t move my head.  So, I took a chance and tried the Deep Blue.  All I can say is wow!  It worked almost right away!  Of course, it didn’t rid me of the problem right away.  I found I had to apply it to my neck and spine every few hours as the pain came back.  I’ve been doing this for about three days now.  Finally, I can report it has gotten down into the root of the problem and my pain is gone.  I used it around 3:00 this afternoon and the pain has not come back.  (It’s after 7:00 pm now.)  Each time I used the Deep Blue essential oil blend it made the pain less and less as it came back, until it finally went away.  I’m learning that these are not miracle cures and sometimes it takes a little bit of time, and multiple applications, for it to help the issue.  Moral of my story…don’t give up using them just because they didn’t take the pain away with the first application.  This did work for me, but it was a lot like taking antibiotics, I had to continue taking (using) it until it killed off the problem.  I can’t tell you how thankful I am to have had this blend at my side the last few days when nothing else would give me relief.  I am seriously falling for these oils!  I’m so glad I get to share this stuff!

The Headache Project

My husband is still skeptical about essential oils.  This morning he had a headache and was just dealing with it by doing nothing.  I asked him if he wanted some Past Tense for it and his response was, “No, I want something that actually works.”  So a few minutes later I got up and gave him a couple of Aleve.  An hour went by and he was still complaining about his headache.   So, the mother in me came out and I retrieved my bottle of Past Tense.  I just walked up to him, swiped the roll on across his head a couple of times, closed the bottle and sat down in my chair next to him.  I didn’t say a word, I just did it.  He didn’t argue with me, or stop me from doing it, so I guess he was quietly willing to try it my way.  About a half an hour later I looked over and asked him how his headache was.  He just looked at me with a bit of a blank stare and then said, “The Aleve finally worked.”  I just laughed and said, “Uh huh, sure it did.”  He smiled.  We both know the Past Tense helped, but he refuses to accept it.  I’m not too worried about it though.  Eventually, the more I can get him to use the oils, they will prove themselves and he’ll become a believer too.  One more successful experimentation with doTERRA.  Woohoo!!

Healthy living is for the hubby too!  LOL!!

Thanks again for letting me share yet another story!

Past Tense Painful Learning Experience

image

I’m so excited!  I get to share again!

Who gets excited over being in pain, right?  Well, I’m not so much excited about the pain as I am excited that it’s another good experience I was able to have with essential oils.

Here’s my story:

I got up to get a shower last weekend and, out of nowhere, I felt excruciating pain in my upper back and neck.  I could barely move my head side to side or back and forth.  It was so crazy!  I was perfectly fine just a second ago!  What in the world could I have done to myself just sitting in my chair?  It was awful!  I’m pretty sure now it was caused by stress and tension, but at the time I didn’t really care about the cause as much as I did getting rid of the pain.

I decided to continue on with my shower thinking the hot water might help to relieve the pain some.  It didn’t.  I was still pretty much stuck in one position, unable to really move too much.  It did help me to realize that the pain was coming from behind my right shoulder blade though, and radiating into the rest of my upper back and neck.  Yep, stress pain!  I didn’t realize I was stressed out, but evidently my body did and it decided to let me know.

After my hot shower didn’t work, I decided to try some Deep Blue oil on the area.  Why not give it a try, right?  I applied it directly to my shoulder and neck area and then went about my day, though still in pain.  Every time I moved it hurt.  I applied it again, and still nothing.  It felt cool on my skin, but it didn’t seem to help the issue.  I thought maybe I didn’t get it on the right spot, since I can’t reach all the way down my shoulder blade, so that evening I asked my husband to massage a few drops into it for me.  Then I used a hot pad intermittently throughout the evening.  Nope, it still didn’t do anything.  So I took a couple of Aleve and went to bed…still in pain.

The next morning it still hurt, but I had to deal with it and get ready for work.  No way was I going to cancel my appointments for a sore muscle.  I took another hot shower, hoping to relax it more, and continued to get ready for work.  This time I decided to use some Past Tense on it instead.  If the Deep Blue didn’t work, maybe this would.  It was worth a try anyway.

I went about my morning routine, trying to stay as motionless as possible, and dragged myself to the salon.  By the time I got there, the pain was mostly gone!  I couldn’t believe it!  No Aleve, just the Past Tense oil.  It worked!  A few hours later the pain started to come back, so I applied more.  It stayed away and I was able to complete my day without any major pain.  What a relief!!  I was really worried it was going to affect my service to my clients.

I continued to use the Past Tense for the next few days, applying it every couple of hours before I ever felt any pain.  Yesterday I stopped using it to see if it was gone or if I had just masked the issue.  Well, I can honestly say it’s gone!  I don’t need the Past Tense now.  I can move freely without any pain.  Woohoo!  It’s a miracle!  lol  No, not really, it’s the power of nature!

I was telling my rep about this issue and I had mentioned that, even before I started doTERRA and I was using other oils, the one thing that confused me about them was so many of the oils work for so many of the same things, which makes it hard to know which one to really recommend to someone.  She agreed, but reminded me that, just like my experience with the Deep Blue and the Past Tense, every person is different and what doesn’t work for one person might work for another, etc.  So, I’m learning that just because the Deep Blue didn’t work for my situation, that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t work for other people, and vice versa.

I’m really glad the pain is gone, which was my main concern at the time, but I’m also happy to have had the experience to share with others!  This is really turning out to be some great stuff, for me at least.

Thank you again for reading my experiences and letting me share them with you!

Freshening the refrigerator.

I had some old sandwich turkey in the fridge that I forgot about until yesterday when I noticed the refrigerator smelled like something had died in it.  Oooopsie!!  I found the problem meat and threw it out but my fridge still smelled horrible the next time I went in it.  I decided some baking soda would take care of it.  Then I thought what about the bacteria that is causing the smell… Hmmmm.  So, I threw some baking soda in a small glass cup and added a few drops of On Guard blend to it.  I left it in the fridge for about half an hour then checked on it.  Woohooo!!!  No more bad meat smell!!  I barely smelled the cinnamon of the on guard too.

I can’t say it was all oil related because I know baking soda works great for that kind of thing, but it doesn’t just not smell anymore, it smells better.  My opinion though.  You’ll have to try it for yourself to see.  You could probably use the lemon, lime, or wild orange also if you like the scent of those more.  Either way, my fridge smells great and I’m a happy camper again.

So glad I got to share with you!

The doTERRA Modern Essentials book
So, I promised I would get a couple of pictures of the book up here and here it is!  This book is packed full of information on the essential oils, what they are good for, and how to use them.
I don’t want to infringe on any copyrights, and maybe I have just by putting this up here, but I want you to see how awesome this book is.  This book is proving to be invaluable to me as I learn about all of the ways to use this in my life.
As you can see, it has pretty much everything in it.  It is a great “go to” tool if you’re not sure about something related to essential oils.  It even breaks down the complex science behind what you are using and pretty much proves why you should use them, whether its doTERRA or not.  I think the most important thing is to know what you are using and making sure that what you are using is safe for you to use.  This book breaks all of that down for you.  I love it!  My oils would probably just sit on the counter if I didn’t have this resource telling me how, when, where, and why to use them.
If you’re thinking about doTERRA, or using any essential oils for your health, this is a great book to have on hand for reference!  Again, thank you for letting me share this with you!

Lemon Essential Oil for my Floors!

So, I was cleaning my house yesterday and I decided to try some lemon essential oil in the water of my hard floor steamer.  (I’m secretly hoping it won’t clog up my steamer if I keep doing it, but I’ll let you know.)  Holy cow!!  I’m so glad I did! Not only did it smell great in the house, but it made my entry floor way shinier than it has been since we moved in!  In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever actually seen it shine.  It has always been kind off dull, so this is super crazy to me!  (Keep in mind, this floor is over 20 years old and probably needs to be refinished in a very bad way.)  If I’m not mistaken, I believe I read somewhere that lemon also has disinfectant properties.  Yay!  Added benefit!  Anyway, I thought I would share this with you.  One more win for these oils in my book.

Healthy living is for everyone!!

I finally received my doTERRA Premium Essentials kit on Christmas day.  Evidently the neighbor lady had it sitting on her front porch the whole time and didn’t notice it was there until then.  I’m very grateful that she is an honest lady and brought it over to us.  I was getting quite nervous about it.
I’m so very excited about this kit!  I’ve taken a few pictures of it on my kitchen table for everyone to see.  Of course, I took them with my phone so they are not professional quality, but you get the gist of it.  It came with 23 oils, a bottle of fractionated coconut oil, a handy safe keeping wooden display box, the lotus diffuser, and an information packet.  I also have a book that explains everything about the oils and how to use them, but that was separate from the kit.  I don’t have a picture of it here because I left it in my treatment room at work.  I’ll try to get a picture of the book up soon for everyone.
I was under the weather last week with the flu and could have used the kit then, but such is life.  Now I’m using it for support instead of healing.  Last night I combined some of the Serenity oil with the fractionated coconut oil and gave the hubby a foot massage.  He loved it!  The massage made his tired feet feel good and the oils calmed him a bit.  Not to mention, it smelled great!  Within a half an hour he was yawning and ready to hit the hay.  Now, I can’t prove that the oils did this, but he did say it felt really good and this morning he woke up more refreshed than he had in a while.  I guess that’s a good sign.  I told him not to get too used to the foot massages. lol  We also diffused some of the Frankincense and Citrus Blend blend and it made the downstairs of my home smell amazing!  Before I went to bed, I put a couple of drops of the On Guard on the bottom of my feet for a bit of health support since I’m still not feeling my best.  I can’t say it’s a miracle oil, but I can tell you that I wasn’t wheezing all night long like I had been, so that was a relief.
This morning I had a bit of an upset stomach.  I’ve had digestion problems for many years now, but the dr.’s I’ve seen just tell me I have gastroenteritis and I pretty much have to deal with it.  So, today I’m trying out the Digest Zen blend to see if that helps.  I’ve applied a few drops, directly to the skin on my abdomen.  I don’t expect it will work in an instant, but maybe if I use it on a regular basis I will see some results.  I’ll keep you updated on that one.  Regardless, it smells good and it’s got a bit of a cooling sensation to it, a bit like having a natural cold compress on my stomach.
So that’s how I’ve started using doTERRA oils, now that I have them.  I will add more to the blog as soon as I try more things and get more results to keep you in the know.  Thanks for letting me share with you!

Where, Oh Where, Has My Little Kit Gone?

Well, no kit as of yet, but I’m watching the tracking & hoping it will come in today.  It was shipped on the 17th and says it should be here on the 23rd.  YAY!!  It seems a little strange that it would take almost a week to get from UT to NV when it’s only one state over.  But, I don’t want to complain…I just want my kit.

I’ve been sick this last week and have been really looking forward to checking out doTERRA’s On Guard blend in the new diffuser.  I was also looking forward to putting it in my treatment room this week so my clients could reap the benefits as well.  I’m pretty sure that will still happen, it’s only Monday.  I’ll just patiently wait…tick-tock…tick-tock!

On the up-side of this, I’ve learned that my Tumblr posts don’t support print screen pics. Doh! (Or I just did it incorrectly, which is a good possibility.)  Learn something new every day!
